      Purpose of Position:
      Work with Faith Learning Director to plan adult learning opportunities.

      Meet one or two times a year to plan learning opportunities for adult parishioners and help to host adult learning gatherings.

    Baptism Attendant
    • Baptism Attendant

      Purpose of Position:
      To assist in welcoming and celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism for infants and young children at ceremonies outside of Mass.

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      Church life, ministry and mission flow from our Baptism. This ministry assists families with infants and young children to celebrate their child’s initiation into the life and membership of the Church.

      Responsibilities:
      The Baptism Attendant prepares the materials and checks in families celebrating baptism. The attendant also assists the presider during the liturgy of Baptism and cleans up area after service.

      Helpful Gifts/Qualifications/ Special Requirements:
      It is helpful for the Baptism Attendant to have a welcoming presence and be attentive to the needs of the families and minister to assist in the celebration of Baptism.

      Amount of Time Required:
      One and a half hours on Sunday (12noon – 1:30pm) approximately 2- 3 times peryear.

      Length of Commitment:
      The length of commitment is ongoing.

      Support Provided:
      New Baptism Attendants are given orientation and the opportunity to shadow a veteran attendant before serving alone.

    Chaperones for Service Events

      Purpose of Position:
      Be a chaperone at youth service events, which is primarily for youth in confirmation formation (grades 9- 10).

      Responsibilities:

      • Help plan and coordinate details of event with Confirmation staff.
      • Chaperone and participate with youth in service activity.

    Confirmation Retreat Team

      Purpose of Position:
      Work with Confirmation Coordinators to assist at our all-day confirmation retreat.

      Responsibilities - Varied, May Include...

      • Attend all or half day of our retreat day
      • Provide general supervision to youth
      • Assist with activities as needed
      • Set up and take down equipment for activities throughout the day
      • Kitchen Team prepares and serves food throughout the day

      • High School Teens (post Confirmation) and Adults
      • Enjoy interacting with teens

      • All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training,complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct agreement.

      Amount of Time
      Varies by role.  The retreat is typically a full 12-hour day.  Some volunteers, such as the Kitchen Lead, may have meetings prior to the evnt.  Some volunteers will work only a portion of the day.

      Length of Commitment:
      One Retreat Day.
      Volunteers are welcome to return every year!

      Support Provided:
      Training meetings as needed, with ongoing support from Confirmation program staff.

    Confirmation Small Group Leader

      grade 9 - 10

      Purpose of Position:
      Work with Confirmation Coordinator in the formation of young people, as they prepare to receive the sacrament, typically in grades 9 & 10.

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      Confirmation classes form high school youth to love, serve, and be hope.

      Responsibilities:
      Two small group leaders are assigned to each small group in the winter of "Year One."  Ideally, these groups remain together through the spring of the following year.  Small group leaders prepare one to two lessons per month using a lesson plan guide, and they mentor group members to grow in faith and complete their program requirements.

      • Adult or post-Confirmation youth
      • Be open to sharing faith experiences
      • Enjoy interacting with teens

      Typically, 1-2 classes per month, 90 minutes each, plus preparation time.  Additionally, a half-day retreat in Year 1 and full day retreat in Year 2.

      Length of Commitment:
      Four months in Year One and eight months in Year 2.

      Small group leaders are provided detailed lesson plans, one training session per year, and other supplemental resources.

    Elementary Faith Learning Service
    • Elementary Faith Learning Service

      Purpose of Position:
      Work with Faith Learning Director to plan elementary faith learning outreach projects.

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      Outreach projects help form young people to love, to serve, and to be hope.

      Responsibilities:

      • Plan and guide youth and their catechists as they engage in the Christmas outreach project to create a Christmas box of nonperishable food items and personal care products.
      • Help youth and their catechists create a hand tied blanket to benefit the ministry of the Annunciation Sisters to the people of North Minneapolis.
      • Plan and guide youth and their catechists as they engage the Lenten Sandwich Making project, which includes assembling 500-1000 sandwiches to be given on the streets of Minneapolis to the hungry. This project is sponsored by the MN Sandwich Project or by Allen Law with 363days.org.

    Faith Learning Council Member

      Purpose of Position:

      • The purpose of a council member is to be an advocate for faith learning for all ages in our parish.
      • Study current trends in programming
      • Vision new possibilities for the future
      • Collaborate with other councils on shared events/initiatives

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      Faith Learning opportunities form and equip children and adult parishioners to love, to serve, and to be hope.

      Responsibilities:

      • Attend monthly meetings, the first Thursday evening of each month.(Meeting includes supper starting at 5:45pm.)
      • Invite parishioners into active participation in faith learning.
      • Complete action steps as required to meet goals.

      • Passion for being a Christian disciple
      • Desire to assist the parish in providing faith learning opportunities.

    First Reconciliation Reception Volunteer

      Purpose of Position:
      Work with the Director of Faith Formation in the formation of young people.

      Responsibilities:
      Two catechists are assigned to each group, Prepared, easy, engagig lessons provided. Meet approximately two sessions per month over a seven-monty period. Learning includes service projects prayer exeriences, games, and interabtive presentations.

      Helpful Gifts/Qualifications/Special Requirements:
      - Helpful Gifts:

      • Trained Good Shepherd or Godly Play catechists are sought. Training provided for those who will make a minimum of a two to three-year commitment.
      • Be open to sharing faith experiences

      - Qualifications: Older Teens and Adults
      - Special Requirements:

      • All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training,complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conductagreement.

      Godly Play Catechist

      Purpose of Position:
      A Good Shepherd catechist tells a scripture story to assistthe child in having an experience of God, using a simple Montessori style,contemplative teaching approach. Manipulatives are used to re-enact the Word of God and reflection time is included to wonder how God is speaking to us today.

      Catechesis of the Good Shepherd forms young people to love, serve, and be hope.

      Responsibilities:

      • Attend training
      • Use materials provided and be present for each class to present the assignment.

      - Helpful Gifts:

      • Trained Good Shepherd or Godly Play catechists are sought. Training provided for those who will make a minimum of a two to three-year commitment.
      • Be open to sharing faith experiences

      - Qualifications: Older Teens and Adults
      - Special Requirements:

    Marriage Preparation Mentor Couple
    • Marriage Preparation Mentor Couple

      Purpose of Position:
      Mentor Couples assist engaged couples preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage to focus on the growth of their relationship as they consider the various aspects of marital life.

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      Mentor Couples provide a service to engaged couples that help them to prepare for marriage as a sacrament and grow in their faith as they live out the covenant of marriage in the Church.

      Responsibilities:
      Mentor couples assist engaged couples by scheduling 3-5 meetings in their home to work with the Prepare Inventory tool and offer support and relationship exercises for the couple to practice.

      Helpful Gifts/Qualifications/ Special Requirements:
      Mentor Couples have reached a level of stability and maturity in their marital relationship that allows them to accompany and serve engaged couples. Mentor couples receive training and certification in the Prepare/Enrich model of ministry. It is helpful for Mentor couples to be able to practice active listening and empathy for others.

      Amount of Time Required:
      Mentor Couples receive 8 hours of training for certification. Their assignmentwith each engaged couple includes 3- 5 meetings with the engaged couple in theirhome. Each meeting includes preparation time and follow through of 2- 3 hours.Each mentor couple has an average of 1- 2 assignments per year depending on thenumber of engaged couples.

      Length of Commitment:
      The commitment is ongoing and renewable on an annual basis.

      Support Provided:
      The Mentor Couples are supported through training, annual meetings and collaboration with clergy presiding at weddings.

      Purpose of Position:
      Work with Middle School Coordinator in the formation of young people.

      Responsibilities:
      Two catechists are assigned to each group. Includes small group lessons, large group activities, and service projects. Catechists are provided prepared lesson plans.

      • Enjoy interacting with children
      • No experience required

      - Qualifications: High School Teens and Adults
      - Special Requirements:

      Amount of Time Required:
      October through April, one to two times per month. Approximately one hour preparation time and one hour class time.

      Length of Commitment:

    RCIA Team Member

      Purpose of Position:
      Instruct, mentor, and encourage RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) catechumens (un-baptized) and candidates (baptized).

      The RCIA process forms RCIA candidates to be Christian disciples, who carry out their call to love, serve, and be hope.

      Responsibilities:
      Team members are responsible for preparing sessions for catechumens and candidates on a rotating basis. They leave mass with catechumens, conduct the dismissal catechesis sessions and conduct the extended catechesis sessions of candidates for full communion and sponsors/family members. They participate in the rites when necessary.

      • Enjoy interacting with those interested in becoming Catholic
      • Committed to Catholic Christianity
      • Knowledge of scripture and a commitment to expand that knowledge

      - Special Requirements: Because some of our catechumens and candidates may be under the age of 18, all adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUStraining, complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct agreement.

      Amount of Time Required:
      Preparation time plus 1 – 1½ hours during and after the 9:00 mass.

      Length of Commitment:
      Varies according to the needs of the people going through the initiation process. Six months to a year.

      Support Provided:
      Team members are provided with materials for each Sunday. They are also given Living Liturgy which contains the readings for every Sunday of the year. They are also supported by the coordinator and other team members who participate in the sessions.

    Sacramental Prep Catechist
    • Sacramental Prep Catechist

      Purpose of Position:
      Help prepare a young person to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Periodically a family comes forward that has an older child who wants the Sacraments. If the parent is unable to prepare the child a volunteer meets with the child or children to teach the lessons and share faith with the child.

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      Catechesis sessions form young people to love, to serve, and to be hope.

      Responsibilities:
      Meet with the child or children to prepare them for the sacraments through teaching lessons and sharing faith.

      - Qualifications: High School Teens and Adults

    Spring Fling Mentor for Youth
    • "Spring Fling" Group Adult Mentor for Confirmation Youth

      Purpose of Position:
      Plan and implement one of our “Spring Fling” groups for Confirmation students and other interested youth.  Help young people to connect every-day life to faith and share their gifts.

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      Spring Fling groups help young people discover new and interesting ways to love, serve, and be hope.

      Responsibilities:
      Two adult mentors are required for every Spring Fling group.  Each group has a unique focus and includes opportunities to learn, to cultivate gifts and talents, and/or to serve.  As a mentor, you choose the topic and meeting times for your group and write a course description to submit to the Confirmation Director in the fall.  Our Year 1 Confirmation students and other interested youth receive a list of options in January and choose their groups in February.  The groups are held any time between mid-March and the end of June.

    Sunday Catechist - Children's Liturgy of the Word
    • Sunday Catechist 
      Children's Liturgy of the Word
      1st - 4th graders

      Purpose of Position:
      Formation of young people during Sunday Mass.

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      Children’s Liturgy of the Word forms young people to love, serve, and be hope.

      Responsibilities:
      Work as a team of two to lead Children’s Liturgy of the Word with children in firstthrough fourth grade using materials provided. The children participate in Children’s Liturgy of the Word while their parents participate in Liturgy of theWord during Mass. The readings are the same Scripture verses but are adapted to the children’s level. The “homily” is a shared discussion of the theme at thechildren’s level. Age appropriate questions are then offered for further reflection.The session opens and closes with prayer.

      Helpful Gifts/Qualifications/Special Requirements
      - Helpful Gifts:

      • Be open to sharing faith experiences
      • Enjoy interacting with children
      • Patience
      • No experience required

      - Qualifications: Teens (at least 15 years old) and Adults
      - Special Requirements:

      • All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training,complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conductagreement.
      • Teens are expected to submit two character references from adults.


      Amount of Time Required:
      Approximately 30 minutes of the 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. Mass, one Sunday a month, October through April.

      Length of Commitment:
      One year (October – April)

      Catechists are provided a guide for all the sessions, one training session per year, and always work with one other leader.

      Sharing God's Story
      for 4 & 5 year old

      Purpose of Position:
      Formation of young people during Sunday Masses, 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      Sharing God’s Story forms young people to love, serve, and be hope.

      Responsibilities:
      Work as a team of two to lead Sharing God’s Story, Bible and activities for children age 4 and in Kindergarten using materials provided.

      • Enjoy interacting with children

      - Qualifications: Teens (at least 13 years old) and Adults
      - Special Requirements:

      • Teens are expected to submit two character references from adults.

    VBS Volunteer
    • vbs volunteer

      Purpose of Position:
      The purpose of a Vacation Bible School (VBS) Volunteer position is to assist with the preparation and running of the annual summer VBS for children in grades
      1-5.

      Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
      VBS forms young people to love, serve, and be hope.

      Responsibilities:
      A week-long, morning program in June for children, grades 1st - 5th, which provides fun-filled learning about God through Bible stories and drama, crafts,games, snacks, videos and songs.

      Attend general orientation meeting. Then choose one or more of the following areas to work in:

      • Station Leader (teach prepared lessons)
      • Crew Leader (manage and encourage small group of children)
      • Making decorations and decorating the space prior to the start of VBS.
      • Preparing and serving snacks and cleaning up afterwards.
      • Daily help, such as check-in, photography, etc.


      Helpful Gifts/Qualifications/Special Requirements
      - Helpful Gifts:

      • Enjoy working with grade school children.
      • Be open to sharing faith experiences
      • No experience required

      - Qualifications: Pre-teens, Teens and Adults
      -Special Requirements:

      • All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training,complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct agreement.
      • Teens are expected to submit two character references from adults and a Code of Conduct form.


      Amount of Time Required:
      •One and ½ hours orientation meeting prior to VBS week. •During VBS week, 2- 4 hours each morning, depending on your selected area.

      Length of Commitment:
      One week in June

      Support Provided:
      Orientation meeting; curriculum, art and music materials; onsite help available from staff and lead volunteers during the entire course of the program, as well as email and phone numbers to call with questions
