Parishioner Engagement Volunteer Roles

Stewardship Definition: As Catholic stewards we are called to acknowledge God as giver of all that we have; accept God’s gifts gratefully; nurture all we have been given wisely and responsibly; and share our gifts with others in justice and love, for the glory of God.

Purpose of Position:
The purpose of the Council Chair is to lead the Parishioner Engagement Council in planning and executing activities that encourage members to share their unique gifts, talents and strengths as they engage in the ministries of the church and in community organizations.

Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
By building a culture of stewardship we help members to use their gifts of time, talent and financial resources to carry out our mission of loving, serving, and being hope to others.

Responsibilities:

• Chair monthly meetings: first Thursday evening of each month. (First Thursday includes supper starting at 5:45 pm.)
• Create meeting agendas and send out to members in a timely fashion.
• Review meeting minutes with the minute taker and edit as necessary. Provide minutes with or prior to sending out the agenda.
• Encourage members to contribute their ideas, gifts and passions to projects.
• Moderate discussions to stick to topics, include input from everyone, create plans to set goals, determine priorities, and evaluate results.
• Facilitate completion of action steps as required to meet goals.
• Act as spokesperson for Parishioner Engagement Council to pastor, other councils, Parish Leadership Council, and others as needed.
• As possible, attend Stewardship conferences, archdiocesan workshops, and other trainings to gather information and ideas to share with the council.
• Maintain good relationships with staff and other leaders in the parish.

• Able to envision the big picture and attend to details
• Skill in leading groups and supporting the gifts of others

Amount of Time Required:
One monthly meeting, as required, approximately 2-4 hours a month.  1-2 additional hours a month flexible time to complete action steps. Some projects may require more time. Attendance at parish leadership special meetings as requested by pastor.

Length of Commitment:
1 year renewable annually

Ongoing help available from staff person Kevin Magyar, members of the committee, previous chair.

The purpose of this position is to be an advocate and systems builder for the full engagement of all parishioners in using their gifts both in ministries within our parish, and in the broader community.

Connection to Parish Mission Statement:
By building a culture of stewardship, we help members to use their gifts of time, talent and financial resources to carry out our mission of loving, serving, and being hope to others.

Responsibilities:

• Attend monthly meetings: first Thursday evening of each month. (Includes supper starting at 5:45 pm.)
• Invite parishioners into active participation in ministries by using their gifts.
• Complete action steps as required to meet goals.

Helpful Gifts/Qualifications/ Special Requirements

• Passion for being a disciple of Jesus.
• Openness to deepening one’s knowledge of what stewardship of one’s gifts means, and desire to assist in growing the culture of the parish to this end.
• Interest or experience in creating systems to support goal achievement.
• Good communication and listening skills.
• Positive attitude toward parish and its ministries.

Amount of Time Required:
One monthly meeting, approximately 2-3 hours a month, and 1-2 additional hours a month flexible time to complete action steps. Attendance at parish leadership special meetings as requested by pastor.

Purpose of Position
To assist members to discover a match between their gifts of skill, passion and experience, and opportunities for service in the parish’s ministries.

Connection to Mission of the Church
Assists members to find fulfilling ways to become more engaged in the work of bringing love service and hope to others.

Responsibilities:

• Contact and schedule a discussion with people who have expressed a desire to meet with a ministry connector.
• Obtain available information on the individual’s gifts.
• Help make connections between the person’s gifts and possible ministry opportunities.
• Pass on information to the appropriate ministry leader or staff person about any interest the individual has in a ministry or area.

Helpful Gifts/Qualifications

• Knowledgeable about current ministry opportunities or willingness to learn.
• Good communication and listening skills.
• Flexible schedule.
• Open to new ideas.
• Comfortable meeting new people.
• Positive attitude toward parish and its ministries.

Amount of Time Required: 
possible 2-3 hours a month

30 minute meeting with Judy Urban for orientation; ongoing help.

Purpose of Position: 
The purpose of the Gifts Core Team is to define objectives to carry out the St. Thomas Becket (STB) Gift Outcomes named by the Parish Leadership Council (PLC) and Parish Engagement Council (PEC); and to review gift outcome progress throughout the year. The Gifts Core Team falls under the PEC umbrella.

Connection to Parish Mission Statement:  
The STB Gift Outcomes, which equip and empower parishioners to use their gifts to love, to serve and be hope, is the primary focus of the Gifts Core Team.

Responsibilities:

• Through reading materials and attending available classes, become familiar with the STB Living Your Talents and Strengths learning process, which includes the Gallup CliftonStrengths talent philosophy and the God-given gifts approach presented in Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response.
• Attend Gifts Core Team meetings via Zoom or onsite at STB, about six times a year.
• Oversee that the STB Gift Outcomes (named by the PLC and PEC) are accomplished.
• Discuss and name objectives and tasks for carrying out the STB Gifts Outcomes.
• Collaborate and maintain good relationships with staff, leadership members, and parishioners.
• Please Note:  Team members are not expected to carry out the objectives; however, team members have the option to volunteer to execute objectives and tasks.

• Strategic thinking talents.
• Likes to think through steps of how to accomplish objectives.

• Positive attitude toward the parish and its ministries.

6 to 12 hours a year.

One to three years.

On going support from PEC and Operations Manager.

Core Gifts Team Lead, PLC and PEC.
